Make the World a Better Place, Rosie

Rosie petal
This was such a fun petal with lots of discussion.
Our troop came up with lots of ideas from being a friend to helping the earth!
For our project we made cards to send to men and women serving in the US Air force overseas and we made bird feeders.

We used the cards as a refresher for being courageous and strong. The bird feeders were a reminder to use resources wisely and would be a great way to combine the petals if you wanted to!

We used single serve orange juice bottles for our bird feeders. Like the one in the picture!
We used the plastic trays that go under pot for the bottom. I found some that were not flat I am hoping that this will keep the seeds from blowing away in the wind.  So far it seems to be working!!
I cut a circle in the middle of the tray so it can slip over the top of the bottle. We cut two holes it the top of the orange juice bottles to hang it. Then added two lager holes and four smaller holes at the top of the orange juice bottle for the seeds to come out.
At our meeting the girls put yarn threw the holes and tied it. if you make the yarn long enough you can put an end threw each hole in the bottom and pull them out the top of the bottle to tie them. Then they picked out ribbon and wrapped that around their bottles. I had some self adhesive ribbon it worked great!!! For the other ribbons we helped them hot glue it on. Next they put the tray over the juice bottle top and we hot glued that in place. We turned it over and filled it with bird seed and put the lid back on.

All finished!!

Additional ideas
Have orange juice for snack the week before and then use those containers to make the bird feeders. Ours were provided by one of the girls families and it seemed to be a little more meaningful for her.

Use stickers to decorate the bottles if hot glue and your troop does not mix.

Earning the Gerri Respect Authority Petal

When I started to look for ideas for Gerri's petal I was disappointed. Lots of places had it combined with other petals and yeah I get that respect myself and other and respect authority are really close but I didn't want to earn two petals in one meeting. All the other ideas had the girls wright thank you cards to different people but we have all ready done that.  So I decided to make a flip book and let the girls wright in how they can show respect. Each photo is half a page and then staple twice on the left side
