Make the World a Better Place, Rosie

Rosie petal
This was such a fun petal with lots of discussion.
Our troop came up with lots of ideas from being a friend to helping the earth!
For our project we made cards to send to men and women serving in the US Air force overseas and we made bird feeders.

We used the cards as a refresher for being courageous and strong. The bird feeders were a reminder to use resources wisely and would be a great way to combine the petals if you wanted to!

We used single serve orange juice bottles for our bird feeders. Like the one in the picture!
We used the plastic trays that go under pot for the bottom. I found some that were not flat I am hoping that this will keep the seeds from blowing away in the wind.  So far it seems to be working!!
I cut a circle in the middle of the tray so it can slip over the top of the bottle. We cut two holes it the top of the orange juice bottles to hang it. Then added two lager holes and four smaller holes at the top of the orange juice bottle for the seeds to come out.
At our meeting the girls put yarn threw the holes and tied it. if you make the yarn long enough you can put an end threw each hole in the bottom and pull them out the top of the bottle to tie them. Then they picked out ribbon and wrapped that around their bottles. I had some self adhesive ribbon it worked great!!! For the other ribbons we helped them hot glue it on. Next they put the tray over the juice bottle top and we hot glued that in place. We turned it over and filled it with bird seed and put the lid back on.

All finished!!

Additional ideas
Have orange juice for snack the week before and then use those containers to make the bird feeders. Ours were provided by one of the girls families and it seemed to be a little more meaningful for her.

Use stickers to decorate the bottles if hot glue and your troop does not mix.

Earning the Gerri Respect Authority Petal

When I started to look for ideas for Gerri's petal I was disappointed. Lots of places had it combined with other petals and yeah I get that respect myself and other and respect authority are really close but I didn't want to earn two petals in one meeting. All the other ideas had the girls wright thank you cards to different people but we have all ready done that.  So I decided to make a flip book and let the girls wright in how they can show respect. Each photo is half a page and then staple twice on the left side

Do you want to build a snowman felt game

Had fun make this for my kids today, it was an instant hit!

I use this game to get close to the proportions. I enlarged the photo and moved it around to fit each part of Olaf on one sheet of paper.

I purchased a yard of blue felt on sale and cut it on the fold to make two.
I had some white felt left over but I estimate needing about 1/3 of a yard.
About half a sheet of brown, black, and gray
A quarter or less of orange

I stitched the sides and bottom of the "snow" to the blue to create a pocket for the storing the parts.
Next I just eyeballed cutting some drifts in the top to make it look more snow like.
I decided to attach Olaf's body parts -legs, mid sections, and head. However you could skip that step.
I used a little spray adhesive to hold him in place while I stitched close to the edge of each part. It has also him lay nice and flat.
Out of the brown cut 2 arms, 2 eyebrows, and his hair. You can either use the picture above to trace out his hair and arms or just draw your own. My  husband traced the arms and I just drew the hair and both I think look good.
Out of black cut 3 roundish buttons, 2 circles for the back of the eye, and 2 small circles or the front of the eyes
Cut 2 circles slightly smaller then the black circles for the eyes out of white
Gray for the mouth, I would recommend tracing this as it is hard to get the curves right. Also I tried adding teeth on top of the gray and felt that it looked much better to cut out the teeth rather then adding them.
Cut your nose out of orange
Layer the black and white circles for the eyes and tack in the center

It is simple fun and durable. It also made a great party game :)

UPDATE: After a few uses the pins that I used to hold it to the wall where starting to rip the felt so I cut strips. Put button holes in both ends of the strips. Attached buttons to the big piece of felt and put the push pins through the top button holes and it is holding up much better now.

A Frozen Party

A Frozen Birthday Party we had lots of fun
We started the party with our photo booth. I took a picture of each kid to use as a thank you card

Next we colored Olaf. I put out different sizes of googly eyes and black pom-poms and orange construction paper so the kids could be as simple or as crafty as they wanted.

After Olaf we made Frozen Slime with a recipe I got from Here

Then we had a break for food

Then we blindfolded the kids one at a time and had them build Olaf together.  This was a HUGE hit with the boys. Here is how to make your own.

I also purchased some Blue Magic Color Scratch Snowflakes from Oriental Trading. They were a fantastic craft to pull out during transition.

Lastly we sang Happy Birthday, ate cake, and opened gifts!
